The BBA in Information Systems program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Information Systems.
Program Educational Objectives
Program educational objectives are broad statements that describe what graduates are expected to attain within a few years after graduation. Program educational objectives are based on the needs of the program’s constituencies (ABET 2021). The ISA undergraduate curriculum Program Educational Objectives rest on four primary foundations: 1) professional knowledge & practice, 2) professional conduct, 3) professional continuous improvement & development, and 4) professional impact & mindset. Moreover, we expect our program graduates to meet the following expectations within three to five years into their professional careers:
- PEO1: Demonstrate the ability to solve business-centered problems by identifying, analyzing, developing, and implementing information system-based solutions.
- PEO2: Demonstrate good interpersonal communication, team skills, and strong ethical principles.
- PEO3: Maintain and update professional skills required by business and industry.
- PEO4: Contribute to their profession and to a global and local society.
The aforementioned Program Educational Objectives were adopted by the ISA Undergraduate Curriculum Committee on January 12, 2021, the ISA Assurance of Learning Committee on January 12, 2021, the ISA Department Faculty on January 1, 2021. The ISA Industrial Advisory Committee has reviewed and adopted these PEOs.
We welcome your comments and suggestions regarding our Program Educational Objectives. You can submit your feedback using the ongoing feedback form. The Assurance of Learning (AoL) Committee and the ISA Industry Advisory Group will review the submitted feedback annually. If applicable, the AoL Committee will make recommendations to the ISA Industry Advisory Group. The ISA Industry Advisory Group will formally adopt, modify, or eliminate PEOs.
ABET Student Outcomes
Student outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program (ABET 2021). The ABET Student Outcomes were adopted by the ISA Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and the ISA Assurance of Learning Committee on January 12, 2021.
- Student Outcome 1: Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
- Student Outcome 2: Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
- Student Outcome 3: Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
- Student Outcome 4: Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
- Student Outcome 5: Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
- Student Outcome 6: Support the delivery, use, and management of information systems within an information systems environment.
The ABET Student Outcomes are defined by ABET and must be approved without modification.
Program Assessment
Assessment is one or more processes that identify, collect, and prepare data to evaluate the attainment of student outcomes. Effective assessment uses relevant direct, indirect, quantitative and qualitative measures as appropriate to the outcome being measured. Appropriate sampling methods may be used as part of an assessment process. (ABET 2021).
The Assurance of Learning (AoL) Committee will coordinate with program faculty to ensure that regular and effective assessment of ABET Student Outcomes occurs in the core courses listed above. All formative assessments will occur during the Spring Term of odd numbered years, commencing Spring 2021. Summative assessments will occur during the Spring term of even numbered years, commencing Spring 2022.
Program Evaluation
Evaluation is one or more processes for interpreting the data and evidence accumulated through assessment processes. Evaluation determines the extent to which student outcomes are being attained. Evaluation results in decisions and actions regarding program improvement. (ABET 2021) The ABET Student Outcomes and assessments of these outcomes will be regularly evaluated by the AoL Committee. Program improvements will be made based on evaluations of assessment data (see ISA Continuous Improvement Process for details).
